What if we could optimize the patient journey by creating

new connections?

We had a challenge. And then we went beyond it.

THE SCENARIO

23 million people worldwide suffer from an Inflammatory Rheumatic Disease

(World Health Organization, 2018)

Rheumatology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, i.e. diseases of bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. For this project, we focused our research on 3 pathologies: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spondyloarthritis and Psoriac Arthritis.

THE CHALLENGE

How may we optimize the patient journey

for the Rheumatology sections?

The Rheumatology medical practice has evolved over the past years. Before, doctors were mainly managing diseases and its consequences on the patient’s life.

Nowadays, there are many new treatments and strategies to contain the diseases, but it is still hard to arrive at a correct early diagnosis.

This is why the pharma company UCB and the Hospital CHU of Reims challenged us on finding new solutions to promote faster and more accurate diagnosis.

TWO DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS

During our research, we realized that there were two points of view that we should take into consideration while trying to develop a solution to solve the late diagnosis issue.

After conducting interviews with patients, we understood that they don’t always succeed to communicate with doctors, and this can result in a late diagnosis.

According to doctors, it is hard to achieve a good and fast diagnosis when they aren't able to connect with other specialists and hospitals.
