SYMPTOMETER
A mediation tool to help patients to communicate their feelings and pain in a more visual way.
WHAT
A mediation tool with visual representation of symptoms and emotions to allow a better consultation experience and an improved understanding between patients and doctors
WHEN AND WHO
In the waiting room or before the consultation. Patients can fill the form and start to reflect about how they are feeling.
FUNCTIONALITIES
A tool to describe pain and feelings with the visual representation of emotions, time of the crisis, pain intensity and its location. It allows a better start of the consultation and facilitates the talk.
OUR DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
During our ethnographic research, there were two pain points that emerged: the first one was the lack of empathy of doctors when they discussed with patients. The second one was the difficulties to describe the type of pain: patients often have trouble finding the right words and expressions. This is why we created two tools that we named Emotisphere and Plaquette de la Douleur.
EMOTISPHERE
Engaging the conversation between patients and doctors, putting the patients' feelings first.
PLAQUETTE DE LA DOULEUR
Helping patients to visualize their pain in order to better describe them.
OUR FINAL DELIVERY
SYMPTOMETER
We realized how an improved communication of the pain could help doctors to do a faster diagnosis. But, when we started to test the tools, it was clear that the two aspects were complementary and this is the reason we decided to integrate all in one tool, that is already being tested by doctors from our corporate partner.
"The physiotherapist couldn’t be happier with the tool, she thought the patients' feelings were very positive."
Ambre
Rheumatologist
"For patients who have difficulty expressing themselves, this would be really helpful!"

OUR LEARNINGS
This prototype was designed as a communication tool that proved to be useful for therapeutic nurses and other caregivers. In practice, rheumatologists used it as a pre-consultation preparation tool distributed to patients in the waiting room.
